We left Greenville after a few morning errands and a stop at
a quilt shop (or two…)!!!! I managed to
buy a little to support a U.S. Small Business (as is my normal excuse for
purchasing more fabric)! We then took
another quick exploratory drive around the city of Greenville – we just loved
this charming city – and off on some back roads through South and North
Carolina toward Ashville.
We passed through Lake Lure – where the movie “Dirty Dancing” was filmed, and stopped at Larkin's On The Lake to have a burger overlooking one of Lake Lure’s bays. It was a beautiful area tucked among the Blue Ridge mountains – we took a drive up a mountainside to view a subdivision and don’t quite understand how builders are able to construct homes on such steep slopes!
We then stopped briefly to stretch our legs at the little village (Ron called it a ‘Tourist Trap’) at Chimney Rock State Park, and visited a few of the gift shops.
We saw lots and lots of rock during the day, much was showing the distinctive signs of uplift from the continental plate movement.
S-curves and hairpin turn curved backroads at 25 – 35 mph then took us toward Ashville where we snagged a room for the night and a quick, light dinner at Chick-fil-A!
The mountains appear hazy in the pictures but they were clear as a bell and beautiful as far as one could see!
We saw this little church along the way and had to stop to take a picture. Maybe we will come back this way one day for services
